Eric was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and moved to San Diego, CA at age 4, where he grew up. In 1994 Eric and his family returned to Brazil and settled in the metropolis of Sao Paulo. It was here Eric was first exposed to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 16. After his first class with famous instructors Fabio Gurgel and Leonardo Vieira, Eric knew immediately he wanted to dedicate his life to learning the “gentle art”, commonly known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ.
Eric began to immerse himself in the competitive BJJ landscape of Sao Paulo. He entered his first competition as a young white belt and went on to compete and place in several local and state tournaments.
Shortly after receiving his blue belt Eric returned to San Diego, the city of his youth. Through a mutual acquaintance (and a bit of fate) he was invited to train at the academy of world-renowned red and black belt instructor Fabio Santos.
It was under Fabio’s tutelage that Eric received his purple, brown and black belts and was an avid competitor at every belt level. As a dedicated member of Fabio Santos Team he competed and placed in several local, national and international tournaments such as the US Open and the IBJJF Pan American Championships.
Early in his training Eric began to cultivate a love for teaching and was made assistant coach upon receiving his purple belt. Eric became one of the Fabio Santo academy’s main instructors when he received his black belt in 2008.
In 2013 Eric relocated to the great Pacific Northwest and now calls the Seattle-area home. Eric Da Silva Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy was founded in July 2017. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and bringing his experience to Woodinville, Washington. Oss.
